Protecting a Poolside Retreat from 2 Acres of Runoff
A challenging slope and two acres of runoff were transformed into a secure, well-drained setting for a new pool and outdoor living space.

Problem
The Hensons were preparing to install a pool but faced major challenges with the topography and stormwater runoff. Their two-acre property funneled water straight toward the future pool area, threatening both the structure and their plans for a cohesive outdoor living space.

On top of the drainage concerns, the yard's steep grade made it difficult to envision a usable, inviting outdoor environment. The family wanted more than just a pool—they envisioned an outdoor space that felt both natural and refined, blending hardscaping and landscape design into one seamless experience. Without a clear solution, they were at risk of investing in a pool that would suffer from water damage and feel disconnected from the rest of the yard.
Solution
We designed and built a comprehensive drainage solution to manage water flow and protect the entire outdoor space. Then, we crafted a tailored living area and landscape that matched their aesthetic vision while making the space functional year-round.
By starting with a smart, engineered drainage system, we prevented long-term issues before they began. Once the flow of water was safely redirected, we moved into the creative phase—designing a dynamic outdoor living area that included planting beds, hardscaping, and space for family gathering. The final landscape design respected the natural terrain while delivering on both beauty and durability.
Result
The Hensons now enjoy a fully protected, thoughtfully designed outdoor environment that enhances their new pool and adds real property value. Their once-troublesome yard is now a beautiful, functional space that works with the land instead of against it.
